"The Very Hungary Caterpillar" is one of their favorite books that I have read to them for storytime. Amy loves to be the teacher and read the books in front of the class.

4th of July Rooftop Party

Celebrating nicely in Goyang, South Korea

Derek, Sara, and I drove to Ashley's city of Goyang, South Korea for a rooftop party to celebrate USA's Independence. We brought a dish to pass, including some Makali, and other Korean beverages. It was great to have a cookout on a roof with many of our favorite foods. We ate fajitas with homemade salsa, different salads, and let's not forget our flag cake and cupcakes.

I met a few new people, some from the U.S., and enjoyed the quality time with my favorite friends. We had fun with sparklers and some bigger fireworks. Lighting off fireworks on the roof I guess was not allowed since we ended up getting kicked off of the roof by the building security guards. By that time though, we had already been there celebrating for most of the evening.

Following the rooftop party, we went to Ashley's apt. to check out her place, and to meet Nick's dog Rooney.

What a good festive day.

Taco Tuesday Togetherness

Perfecting the taco in SK

We make it a point to gather for taco Tuesdays every other week or so. It is a special occasion in Korea for us to enjoy the delicious homemade taco. I had some taco seasoning sent to me from the U.S., and we all take turns visiting the foreign markets to gather other ingredients and such to top our tacos. It is like tasting a little bit of home.

All the Koreans that we have invited to our taco nights, have not left disappointed. They love our tacos! to add, the city of Itaewon has a Taco Bell opening up this weekend. It will be the first Taco Bell in Korea. I am interested to find out how different the taste and menu options are.

Tony has the nicest apt., which by the way was supposed to be my apt., but I arrived a few days before it was available. It has hearts decorating the bathroom, butterflies and flowers on the walls of the kitchen, and tons of closest space. Yes, I may be a just a little bitter...

Elementary English Time

10 and 11 year old students

This a glimpse into my afternoons of teaching the sassy, but sweet elementary students. I teach English Time, Multimedia, Explore writing, and journal writing.

Tony__pic_dictionary.jpg
Tony is one of my brightest and most outgoing elementary students. He is in my highest level English class. He is a great student.

Cutie_Tony.jpg

Jennifer_and_Ruby.jpg
Ruby is my most improved elementary student. She started out as quite a challenge for me, but with a little extra attention from me, she is doing so well and enjoying class.

Mushroom__..h_shirt.jpg
His name is Evan, but I call him Mushroom because, well... He looks like a mushroom with that haircut. He loves the nickname, and was ecstatic when "mushroom" showed up as one of his spelling test words.

I had to take a picture of him representing Oshkosh!

My_twin_boyfriends.jpg
Kevin and Danny, my twin boyfriends, haha. Everyday they come to class early to greet me and to ask about my day. They are genius little boys too. They amaze me with their intelligence on the daily.

Sassy_Jin.jpg
Jin is probably my sassiest student ever! Outside of class she is adorable, but in class is a whole different story.

Picnic in Central Park

A day of relaxing and sunshine

CP3.jpg

Anyang Central Park is only a 5 minute taxi ride from my apt. It is a huge beautiful park. There are beautiful fountains that light up with a variety of colors at night. Friends and I spent a Sunday afternoon into the evening picnicing and relaxing on the grass. What a great way to end the weekend.

Market Day

Buyers and sellers

Market Day is designed to teach the students about the value of money, what it is to be a consumer, and also to reward them for their hard work and success thus far.

30830_7657..00090_n.jpg

Beforehand, we helped the students make little bags to put their market day dollars in while shopping. Each student keeps a sticker board that is proudly displayed on the classroom wall. I give out stickers to the students for a correct answer, good behavior, a good deed, and various other reasons. Once they reach 100 stickers they receive a prize, picked and purchased by me. Every other month we have market day so they can shop with the dollars earned in accordance to how many stickers they've accumulated in the alotted time period.

They are very competitive, and I always catch them counting and comparing their stickers with one another. I have to make sure I buy pretty and awesome stickers to give them as they are quite particular.

Almost everyday Clara makes her way into the teacher's room for attention and hugs. She is known as the Diva of the students. She is definitely a princess.

When the students finished shopping they could join in on the fun game of bowling. I was there as the bowling supervisor. Tony Teacher was in charge of setting up the pins after each bowler.
